Albarello or Pharmacy Jar Painted in Blue inscription "Altheh" or Marshmallow root. The traditional medicinal uses of the plant are reflected in the name of the genus, which comes from the Greek althainein, meaning "to heal" The root has been used since Egyptian antiquity in a honey-sweetened confection useful in the treatment of sore throat. Catalonia Circa 1750. A similar Albarello is found in the collection of F. Hoffmann-La Roche & Co, Documented in "Apothecary Jars" by Rudolf Drey.
