(b.1747 - d.1806) August was the youngest child of Frederick III, well educated in literature and sciences, although a planned military career was abandoned in 1769. After travelling to the Netherlands and the UK. August took a Grand Tour to Italy from 1771 - 1777, engaging with Voltaire in Geneva.
