Invigorating Oil on Canvas by Gustav Penzyna. Birds of paradise in a Tree with a long eared owl. Gustav Penzyna 1882 - 1938 Born to Polish Parents in what was the Russian Empire, he travelled to Paris to train as both an artist and sculptor. Described as a painter of the first school of Paris. His work is quoted as "original creations, with an acidic and invigorating use of colours, as well as a desire to restore raw forms without embellishment" His works were popular and successful, he benefits from recognition from the public and major art critics such as Leon Rosenthal. The dispersal of his works after his death was held by Drouot 1939, it was followed by the press. The onset of World War tempered widespread appreciation for his work.
