Stock Number: 4296Late 19th Century Psyche of Capua Statue. "The Pysche of Capua" A Roman Marble sculpture found in the amphitheatre in Capua in the 18th Century. It dates from the 1st Century BCE created after a lost Hellenistic original attributed to the Greek Sculptor Scopas. The sculpture is renowned for its lifelike and emotive qualities. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of Roman sculpture and the Roman original is housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. This is a late 19th Century Grand Tour example. Alabaster France, Circa 1880.
