Impressive French Carved and Gilded 18th Century Mirror
Stock Number: 4717An exceptional 18th-century French giltwood mirror, richly carved with an exuberant Neoclassical-inspired crest. The upper section is centred by a finely modelled classical female figure, flanked by spreading wings, scrolling foliage and beautifully carved lions' heads. The octagonal mirror plate is enclosed within a boldly moulded, Gilt-decorated frame, further embellished with delicate floral and foliate motifs. The original gilding has mellowed beautifully with age, giving the surface a wonderfully warm and atmospheric quality. Enchanting, sparkling mirror plate. Original backboards. France, Circa 1760.
