Glazed Stoneware Twin Handled Floral Vase
Stock Number: 4770A wonderfully characterful French stoneware vase with a generously rounded body, short cylindrical neck and two large loop handles. The warm brown glaze has a rich, varied surface with subtle tonal variation and natural firing marks throughout. The front is decorated with applied and incised foliage, branches and a simple stylised flower, creating an attractive relief against the plain ground. The decoration has a deliberately rustic, naturalistic quality, while the substantial form and expressive glazing give the piece considerable presence. A particularly handsome example of French country pottery, with an appealing aged surface and strong sculptural character. France, Circa 1950.
