Marble-Top Ram's-Head Coffee Table, Attributed to Maison Ramsay

Stock Number: 4845

Marble-Top Ram's-Head Coffee Table, Attributed to Maison Ramsay A neoclassical brass and bronze coffee table, attributed to Maison Ramsay, probably French and dating to circa 1950. A rectangular dark marble top sits within a slim metal surround, supported by an open frame combining a deep brown patina with contrasting golden details. Crossed supports at either end meet at circular junctions and are connected by a longitudinal stretcher with decorative collars. Cast bronze ram's-head mounts sit beneath the four corners, their curled horns and elongated faces introducing sculptural detail to the restrained framework. The splayed legs terminate in cloven-hoof feet, completing the classical animal ornament. The dark marble provides a quiet counterpoint to the warmer metal mounts, while the slender supports give the table a light, architectural presence. Its balanced proportions and distinctive detailing make it an appealing centrepiece for a seating arrangement, complementing both traditional furnishings and modern interiors. France, Circa 1950. Condition is commensurate with age, the bronze and brass frame is naturally patinated, the marble is in good condition with one small nibble to one corner.
