An Impressive French Neoclassical Bronze Fire Screen.
Stock Number: 4837An exceptionally decorative French bronze firescreen in the Louis XVI taste, displaying an elaborate arrangement of classical ornament and finely cast detailing. The architectural framework is surmounted by scrolling acanthus foliage, pierced balustrades and ornamental finials, centred by a classical urn embellished with floral garlands. The uprights are richly decorated with trailing foliage, ribbon-bound motifs and fluted detailing, terminating in boldly modelled paw feet. The lower section features further scrolling ornament and a central classical urn. Standing on four hoof feet. Retaining a beautifully weathered verdigris patination, this striking piece combines architectural elegance with sculptural presence. A wonderful example of French decorative metalwork, equally suited to its original purpose or as an unusual decorative interior feature. France, Circa 1880.
